Drivers, Teams Hit Boston To Promote Lime Rock Races
May. 17, 2010
Michael HarkerTurner Motorsport, Ted Marsh Racing and 3D Racing will lap the city of Boston with their respective cars early Thursday afternoon before taking the checkered flag in the parking lot of The Liberty Hotel and Massachusetts General Hospital. Several of the teams' drivers will be on hand to sign autographs and talk about their high-performance cars as well as raise money for children's charity David House's through a silent auction. All three teams and several of the drivers have local ties.
For Turner Motorsport, the Amesbury, Mass., stable is the closest fulltime GRAND-AM team to the Boston area. Established in 1993 as a company providing and offering products to BMW enthusiasts, Turner Motorsport is one of the most successful teams in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge history, holding records for overall victories (17), overall pole positions (20), class pole positions (29), Grand Sport wins (17) and Grand Sport poles (17).
Turner Motorsport, which is also making its 200th professional race fielding a BMW at Lime Rock Park, added a BMW M6 to the Rolex Series for the 2010 season.
Ted Marsh Racing, based in Old Saybrook, Conn., is new to the GRAND-AM scene, having debuted last month at Barber Motorsports Park with a Corvette and co-drivers Eric Curran and Sonny Whelen. Curran, of Springfield, Mass., is one of several Massachusetts drivers who have won races in GRAND-AM in recent seasons. Whelen, of Old Lyme, Conn., is new to GRAND-AM this season.
3D Racing debuted in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge competition last season at Watkins Glen International, and is making its first race of 2010 with the help of Boston-based Guardian Angel Motorsports, one of the main proponents of the promotion. David Maynard, whose family owns 3D Autoworks in Hudson, N.H., made two series starts last season, while co-driver Tom Sheehan will make his first career Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge start at Lime Rock. Sheehan, of Auburn, N.H., competed in the Rolex Series season opener, the Rolex 24 At Daytona, with Guardian Angel in January.
A VIP reception begins at 4 p.m. ET, while the silent auction - open to the public - begins at 6 p.m. Among the items being auctioned off are driving school programs, hot pit passes and pace car rides at Lime Rock and a signed driving suit worn by Guardian Angel Motorsports drivers during the 2010 Rolex 24. The evening also features a chic modern fashion show beginning at 10 p.m.

Guardian Angel Motorsports in cooperation with Lime Rock Park & Grand-Am announce Liberty for Lime Rock
May 11, 2010 (Boston, MA)—Guardian Angel Motorsports presents Liberty for Lime Rock, a racing gala in collaboration with Lime Rock Park and Grand-Am racing. The event is scheduled for May 20, 2010 at The Liberty Hotel in Boston, MA and will be a media event in partnership with children’s charity David’s House.
Before the gala kicks off with a special VIP reception at 4pm, Guardian Angel Motorsports is bringing racing to the streets of Boston, quite literally. They will have Grand-Am cars from Turner Motorsports, Marsh-Whelen Racing, and 3D Auto Works on display at the event, after taking the cars out for a twist on the classic hot lap—through the streets of Boston. The Robin Hood Rally reality TV racing series will be there supporting the series as well as the Massachusetts General Hospital.
After all of the downtown excitement the VIP reception (tickets for which are available to anyone who purchases a ticket or donates to GAM) will begin with signature celebrity-inspired cocktails such as the Courtney Love or The Green Mile by The Alibi bar located in The Liberty Hotel. VIP packages come complete with schwag bags sponsored by the event holders, which includes Harpoon Brewery. The gala will be kicked off with the most important feature of the event, a silent auction that will be benefiting David’s House.
David’s House is a foundation that sits as a home away from home for ill or injured children from the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical center. Guardian Angel Motorsports became interested in becoming a supporter of the children’s charity after their paths became intertwined with Makenna; the beautiful grand-daughter/daughter of the family that runs 3D Auto Works has herself benefited from David’s House. The proceeds for the silent auction will go towards David’s House, as in GAM fashion, a team that is not only centered around a passion for motorsports, but also giving back to children and their families who have had the misfortune of illness or accidents.
The silent auction will be open to the public at 6pm closing at 7pm after auctioning off driving school opportunities; hot pit passes at Lime Rock Park, pace car rides, and a signed commemorative Rolex 24 hour of Daytona racing suit and much more.
Adding to the excitement of the evening will be the weekly chic modern fashion show, Fashionably Late Thursdays held at The Liberty Hotel at 10pm, which will also be collaborating with the events of the evening.
“At Guardian Angel Motorsports we thrive on events like this,” stated Bruce Ledoux, one of the team leaders and drivers, “we are very excited for this opportunity to offer a chance for the public to take part in what we have such a passion for: racing and helping out the community, especially children’s charities.”
Guardian Angel Motorsports invites anyone who is interested to go to their website and RSVP to the event. If you are unable to attend in Boston and are still interested in their efforts, you can always become a Guardian Angel as well. Donations are welcomed to aid their support; instructions on their site: www.guardianangelmotorsports.com
