3D Race Team History
2009 Season:
The 2009 Season, the 3D Team decided to
race in both SCCA Regional and Grand-Am Koni Challenge. The First
Race of the Season for the SCCA Regional Car #18 was certainly an
interesting one. The Team traveled up to New Hampshire Motor
Speedway on Thursday April 16, 2009 to test out the car, testing was
going Great, the car felt good and the times were fast. Then Dan
and David let a friend try out the car. A Miss Shift and BOOM, the
Motor was blown. Dan and David packed up the car Thursday night
and headed back to the shop to see exactly what damaged was done.
Hoping for an easy fix they took off the cylinder head and found
extensive damage -- BIG Hole in the Piston, Valves Broken and Spark Plug
melted to the Engine!!! OK, now what -- Well Dan and David
looked around the shop and found our OLD Engine under the
stairs collecting dust, so they decided to install it and see what
happens. Dan and David finished the Engine Install by Friday night
at 8:00pm and made it to Registration on time for the Race on Saturday.
David took the car out for qualifying and ended up putting the car on
POLE!!!!!!! The Race Saturday afternoon was great and David ended
up WINNING the Race overall with the "Junk Yard" Motor!!!! So, the
lesson we learnt with this is......It is not all about Horsepower!!!!
2008 Season:
Th e 2008 Season, the 3D Team decided
to removed the "SIR" and change classes to go faster. The Team will be
running in the ITR Class for all SCCA Regional Races. The Team will
also be competing in two New Series for the 2008 Season. The Inaugural
Season for the 2008 Driving Impressions Pro-IT Series in the ITR Class
and the Inaugural Season for the 2008 North Atlantic Production Car
Challenge in the DP Class. The "SIR" will not be missed!!
The 3D Team Driver,
Dave Maynard finished First in Points for each of the
SCCA Road Racing Series in which he participated. He captured
the 2008 North Atlantic Road Racing (N.A.R.R.C.) "ITR" Championship.
He also Won both the 2008 New England Road Racing Championship "ITR"
Class and the 2008 New York State Road Racing Championship "ITR" Class.
Due to lack of participation and competitors in the 2008 North Atlantic
Production Car Challenge, the event organizers decided to cancel the
series.
The N.A.R.R.C.
Runoffs proved to be an exhausting Race for both Driver and Crew.
During the 1st Qualifying Session, the track was wet so we qualified
with Rain Tires then during the 2nd and final Qualifying Session, the
track was dry, but within 2 laps we lost Oil Pressure so our qualifying
time on the Dry Tires was not a low as we liked. For the Merged
Grid we ended up in the 4th Starting Position. Dan had to decide
if he wanted to tear the motor apart to see what the problem with no oil
pressure was .....OF COURSE Dan would find the Problem!!!! Dan and
David spent the next six hours tearing the bottom end of the motor apart
to find the problem, repair it and get the car Race Ready for Saturday's
Big Race. Saturday's weather was very overcast and the rain kept
on and off all day so trying to figure out what tires we needed for the
race was a big gamble. Dan sent David out on Dry Tires hoping that
the rain would stay away, as did just about everyone else in the Group 8
(ITR-ITS-ITB) Race. As soon as the 1 minute warning was given, the
rain started, it was just a slight mist, but constant and caused
very slippery conditions to the track surface. David had a good
start and passed the three cars that were ahead of him on the first lap,
he kept the lead for the entire race and WON the N.A.R.R.C. Runoffs
Overall "ITR - ITS - ITB" at Limerock Park.
The Inaugural Season
for the Team DI.com PRO IT Series presented by Driving Impressions was
Great!! The Event Organizers did a great job getting the Series
off the Ground, Good Sponsors and LOTS of track time. The series
consisted of 6 races held at Pocono; Limerock and New Jersey.
We participated in 5 of those races due to 1 conflict with another race
series we were participating in. The Finals were held on a Very
COLD weekend in October in New Jersey. The first race we qualified
4th with a time of 1.15.498, on the start David moved the car right up
to 2nd position then in the 4th lap he took over the lead and led all
but 7 laps of the race, on the last lap coming under the bridge,
the car started to sputter (running out of gasoline), Rob Driscoll
of AutoTechnic passed David on the Front Straight for the WIN.
David brought the car down the front straight to the Finish in 2nd place
and out of gas with a Track Record of 1.15.133. The Second and
Final Race, we qualified on POLE, this race was intense as the top 3
(Maynard (ITR) - Driscoll (ITS) - Rooke (ITS) ) battled the entire race
swapping places for the Overall Lead during the last lap , lap
traffic 2 cars blocked and Rooke (ITS) took the overall lead, David WON
ITR, set another Track Record with 1.15.021 and took 2nd Overall.
David WON the "ITR" Championship for the Pro-IT Series along with a ZAMP
RZ-2 Sport Helmet from Driving Impressions.
This Season the 3D Team also EXPANDED,
welcoming Robert Breault DMD and his #36 ITA BMW Z3; Domenic Crugnale
and his #29 ITR BMW 325; and Suzy Hiniker and her #20 ITR BMW 325. Check
out the Sponsored Cars Page for Information on these Team Members
and their Race Cars.
2007 Season:
The 2007 Season was Good. With 18 Races for the 2007
Season; 1 Win; 14 top 5's and 2 top 10's. But the frustration with the
SIR and the lack of Power it caused, the team was starting to look for
other options for the next season.
2006 Season:
The 2006 Season
started off rough having to get use to running with another NEW SCCA
Rule for the ITS BMW E36's, a 29mm "SIR" (Single Inlet Restrictor). But
that didn't keep the 3D Team or Driver down. After a rough start at
Pocono, trying to figure out where to place the SIR. It was off for
some Dyno Testing, Suspension Set Up, and Corner Weighting, we were
ready for the rest of the Season. With 2 Wins for the 2006 Season, 1 at
NHIS and 1 at Limerock, 7 top 5's and 5 top 10's. Our most important
WIN and the Best Race of the Season was at the 2006 N.A.R.R.C. Runoffs
in October. Dave battled for the Win and had a good clean race. Dave
gave Dan a well deserved Victory Lap around Limerock.
The
3D Team Driver,
Dave
Maynard finished in the Top 5 in
Points for each of the SCCA Road Racing Series in which he
participated. He finished in 3rd Place in the 2006 North
Atlantic Road Racing Championships "ITS" Class; and he finished
Tied for 1st Place in the 2006 New England Road Racing
Championships "ITS" Class. He finished in 3rd Place in the 2006
New York State Road Racing Championships "ITS" Class.
The
3D Team and Driver would like to give Special Thanks to
Larry Churchill and Rick Schaefer for all their help during the 2006
Season.
2005 Season:
The 2005 Season was Interesting and
Successful! The NEW 2005 SCCA Rule had our E36 BMW Restricted (We had
to run a Restrictor Plate!) OK, Restrictor Plate in Place a New Exhaust
System and some adjustments to the Suspension we let Dave loose to get
use to the new restrictions and set up on the E36. While he was
frustrated that he had to run a Restrictor Plate and the other non-BMW
competitors didn't have a restrictor plate rule placed on them, he kept
the E36 running a good clean race all season. He even managed to get
married in the middle of the race season without missing a race. Out of
the Eleven (11) SCCA "ITS" Races he competed in this season, he had
Seven (7) Top 5's and One (1) Top 10.
The N.A.R.R.C. Runoffs were a challenge,
while on the Grid, the E36 developed an electrical gremlin and would not
start, Dan worked his magic, got the E36 running and Dave went out
Dead Last, he had a great race and ended up finishing in Second (2nd)
Place and winning the "ITS" Flatout Motorsports Hard Charger Award.
The end of October Dave competed in a BMW
Club Race Weekend at NHIS without the Restrictor Plate (Restrictor
Plates are not required for BMW Club Racing) and posted his fastest time
at NHIS of 1.14.958 with the Oval/Chicane configuration. He ended up
taking First in Class in the BMW Club Race. (JP Class for BMW Club
Racing)
The 3D Team Driver,
Dave Maynard
finished in the Top 5 in Points for each of the SCCA Road Racing
Series in which he participated. He finished in 3rd Place in the
2005 North Atlantic Road Racing Championships "ITS" Class; and he
finished in 3rd Place in the 2005 New England Road Racing
Championships "ITS" Class. The 3D Team was unable to run the New York
State Road Racing Championships this year due to a Family Illness, but
be sure the 3D Team and Dave will be back for the 2006 Season running
all three SCCA Championship Series (NERRC - NARRC - NYSRRC).
2004 Season:
April 16th and 17th, 2004

his first year of racing. He is the 2004
SCCA New York State Road Racing ITS
Champion;
he finished in 5th Place in the 2004
North Atlantic Road Racing Championships "ITS" Class; and he finished in
5th Place in the 2004 New England Road Racing Championships "ITS"
